Our Amazing Human Body: Heart

The heart is the organ the most interest me because it is very important, it pumps blood, and it gives us life.
The heart is a pumping muscle responsible for circulating oxygen-rich blood. There are four chambers inside the heart: the two upper chambers are called atria and the two lower chambers are called ventricles. The heart muscle squeezes blood from chamber to chamber. The heart contains coronary arteries, tubelike branches, which are attached to The aorta (the large blood vessel that carries blood and oxygen from the heart to the rest of the body).

It might be a shocker for some people, but hearts isn’t really located on the left side of the chest. It lies between the right and left lungs, in the middle of the chest and slightly towards the left of the breastbone. In rare cases, the heart is located towards the right side. This condition is called dextrocardia and is congenital in nature.

The human heart is about the size of an adult's closed fist, but the size varies according to an individual's age, health and size, weighs 7 to 15 ounces.

There are many diseases that can alter the normal functioning of the heart, some are:
Rheumatic heart disease
Hypertensive heart disease
Ischemic heart disease
Cerebrovascular disease
Inflammatory heart disease
And many others.

To keep the heart healthy we can follow these tips:
- Eat healthy fats, NOT trans fats
- Get enough sleep
- Avoid secondhand smoke like the plague
- Sit less and sweat more (exercising).
